While in Excelsior Springs there are ongoing events such as the Lane of Lights, Hall of Trees, and seasonal sales in all of the stores, there are plenty of other things happening just outside the area that folks might want to partake in!

2. Olde World Christmas Weekend Tours – Kansas City, Kansas

The Strawberry Hill Museum and Cultural Center (720 N 4th St., Kansas City, KS 66101) has decorated for the holidays and will be giving weekend tours! You purchase tickets ($10 each) at the door with either cash or check only.

3. Santa Dives at Kansas City Zoo

What’s red and white and swimming with the penguins at Helzberg Penguin Plaza? Santa! Get a one-of-a-kind photo of Santa as penguins torpedo around him. Watch the penguin bubbles trail the man in the red suit and hear the children giggle. Dives are at 2 p.m. December 22nd and 23rd.

Also, watch for Santa Dives at the Sea Life Aquarium in Kansas City December 18, 19, and 20 at 11:00am. Santa will join the deep sea fun as he dives into the Ocean Tank to see all of the good little fishies this holiday season! They’ve decked the halls of Stingray Bay where you can write a letter to your favorite sea creature!

5. Christmas Day Blanket Handout to Homeless

The UAW 249 Local’s Motorcycle Committee is preparing to hand out blankets on Christmas Day to our area’s homeless. They are looking for help in handing out items, but also collecting blankets, for those who may have some to donate.

New Excelsior Springs Library

Many thanks to all who supported Proposition L. The funding from the measure has paid for a renovation of our old library, expanding and configuring new technologies throughout the entire space. On Wednesday, December 5th a grand opening was held where multiple community leaders were invited to speak.

There’s a lot going on in Excelsior Springs every day that you won’t want to miss out on, but here are seven activities coming up this week that you won’t want to miss!

• Wednesday, December 5 at 9:00am – Mid-Continent Public Library Opening Celebration
Our citizens have eagerly been awaiting the new construction that has been underway at our beloved library! Join them this Wednesday morning for a formal opening, with entertainment and treats, too!

• Wednesday, December 5 – 9:30am – MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) Monthly Meeting
There’s a new Mom’s group in Excelsior Springs through the First United Methodist Church. Be sure to join other area pre-school aged moms with their children for some fun and fellowship each month! Click here for more details!

• Thursday, December 6 – 11:30am-1:00pm – SAFE Meeting
The Substance Abuse Free Environments (SAFE) committee will be holding its monthly meeting at the Excelsior Springs Hospital. There will be a special presentation given by ES Hospital CEO Kristen DeHart regarding access to opioid addiction treatment that will be offered through our hospital. For more details, see the Friday, Nov. 30th edition of the Excelsior Springs Standard.

• Friday, December 7 – 12:30pm – Chamber Meet & Eat
This Friday the Excelsior Springs Chamber will be having a Meet & Eat gathering at Price Chopper for lunch. Join in on this networking event and get more details by clicking here!

• Friday, December 7 – 7:00pm – Atlas Saloon
Every Friday evening, the Atlas Saloon downtown on Broadway will have Karaoke Friday’s! Swing in for a beer from their new brewery at the location and get your sing on!

Saturday, December 8 – 5:45pm and 7:45pm – Holly Jolly Trolley Tours & Taste of Christmas
This Saturday, the Excelsior Springs Chamber will be offering Holly Jolly Trolley Tours throughout town to see the houses competing in this season’s Lighted Displays! Click here for more info!

• Lane of Lights – Lover’s Lane and 10 Hwy – Donations for Entry
The Lane of Lights is open 5:30pm-10:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 5:30pm-9:00pm on Sundays through Thursdays. Proceeds go to the group that is sponsoring the Lane for that night and the Christmas Committee! Here’s the list for this week’s hosts:
