Saturday, February 22nd, the Excelsior Springs Golf Course held a first ever Cornhole Tournament that they’re hoping to continue monthly at the course. Born and raised Excelsior citizen Austin Hardison was part of the effort to organize the event, explaining, “We know that the Golf Course and food and beverage won’t be enough to turn a profit for the course, so we are looking to give more reasons for people to come here.”<\/p>\n

Many citizens are still confused, thinking only golf course members are allowed to be there. That’s why the course is looking to incorporate activities that are non-golf related. As Hardison stated, “We want to do something different to get younger aged people to participate in activities here.”<\/p>\n

School board member Andy Starkebaum was participating in the tournament with his teenage son, Ben. Andy said, “This was a good way to spend the afternoon with my son.”<\/p>\n

There were a total of 16 teams participating in the tournament, drawing participants from all over the area, as far away as Lawrence, Kansas. First place in the tournament went to the Jared Parker and TJ Newell. Second place was the Catalina Wine Mixers, Jake Elder and Aaron Felling. Third place went to the “Fireballerz”, Mike Grubb and Ron Pfeiffer. Other team names included, “Ain’t Braggin’, Just Baggin'”, “Saggy Baggerz”, and “Starch Farts.”<\/p>\n

Co-organizers of the event included the new Golf Hill Grille Manager Brooke Peterman, Frank Conrick, Austin Hardison, and Golf Course Manager Tim Jarman. They looked at the first tournament as a trial run. Held indoors, due to weather, future tournaments will be staged outside and held monthly. If there is enough interest, they will even consider creating a league.<\/p>\n
