5 More Places to Volunteer in Excelsior Springs

Are you wanting to get involved and aren’t sure where to start here in Excelsior Springs? I get asked quite a bit how to get involved and who to contact. That’s why I put together a blog post a few months ago listing five organizations in Excelsior Springs that I know often need help! Thanks for your interest in getting involved! There can never be enough volunteers, it seems!

Excelsior Springs Hospital – Contact: Jeanne Buckman, 816-629-2768
As a not-for-profit community hospital, Excelsior Springs Hospital places the health and well-being of our patients and visitors as our highest priority. Serving in a multitude of jobs, our volunteers contribute greatly to this mission of quality care for all patients. The volunteer program is for men and women ages 18 and older. Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. Volunteers are covered by the hospital’s insurance while working and a background check is required.

Volunteer opportunities include activities in the Senior Living Facilities, driver for hospital van (must have Class E License), Gift Shop, office duties, Home Health/Hospice Angels, information desk, Radio Ham Operator, and assisting residents in Senior Living Facilities.

Excelsior Springs School District Booster Club – Contact: Courtney Cole, 816-630-9200 x1110
There are a number of booster clubs for our elementary and middle school, as well as activity boosters for our upperclass students at the high school and career center. They provide a number of activities throughout the year raising money for our schools. Whether you’re volunteering to help with a fundraiser, setting up for a teacher luncheon, or helping out in the school office or classroom, there’s always a need for help in our schools!

Meet the Need/Opportunity Cafe – Contact: Kris Peoples, 816-630-9006
Meet the Need is a social service agency that offers support to those who are low-income, working individuals and families. They have a thrift store that operates Monday through Saturday from 10am-5pm. They also have an Opportunity Cafe, that provides employment to those trying to get back on their feet. Volunteers can be used in the thrift store and for other odd jobs.

Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation – Contact: Nate Williams, 816-630-1040
The Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation department helps to beautify our community and provide activities for our residents to enjoy year round. Volunteers are needed for the annual stream cleanup, coaches for various activities, and also helping with meals at the Senior Center.

Excelsior Springs Christmas Committee – Contact: Amanda Romazon, 816-630-6161
The Excelsior Springs Christmas Committee is a year-long effort, with most activity in need of volunteers being in the fall prior to the busy season. However, decorations and light fixtures need regular maintenance throughout the year. There are also opportunities for volunteers during the Elf Factory, Holiday Homes Tour, staging the Lane of Lights, and on the evening of the Christmas Kickoff (3rd weekend in November).
